Top 5 Questions To Ask Yourself Before Buying A New Phone

Buying a new phone can be a huge expense, and this is why you need to ask yourself if you really need it. However, most of us are dependent on our phones to get through the daily hubbub of life. So, without further ado, let’s dive into this blog and learn some important questions you need to ask yourself before buying a new phone.

1. Use and needs?

new

The first question to ask yourself is the use. If you are looking for a phone to make phone calls, surf the Internet and check your emails, you do not necessarily need a high-end smartphone. Some smartphone models available for less than 200 dollars allow you to access this type of functionality.

On the market, we find this kind of smartphone with an excellent quality/price ratio with the brands Wiko, Oppo, or Honor. On the other hand, you need to go for a complete smartphone for more advanced functions such as taking photos, multimedia, or larger storage capacity. For this type of use, it is advisable to opt for a mid-range model between 200 and 400 dollars.

And finally, for the most intense uses, especially for gaming or for users who are fond of the latest technologies and features, you can choose a premium smartphone, that is, a high-end smartphone with the biggest brands on the market, such as Samsung, Apple or Xiaomi, and Huawei.

2. What is your budget?

In addition to the features you want to enjoy on your new smartphone, you should also ask yourself what budget to spend on your new mobile. Indeed, smartphone prices are getting higher and higher with more cutting-edge technologies and new features. Some models like the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 or the latest iPhone 11 Pro are available for purchase from 959 or 859 dollars, respectively.

3. Android or Apple?

new

Another key point to consider when choosing a smartphone is the operating system. Just like a computer, the functioning of a phone is based on an operating system. There are two main systems on the smartphone market: Android and iOS.

To go into a little more detail, many smartphones (more than 80%) have the Android system developed by Google on this market. With a smartphone delivered under Android, you have access to the Google Play Store with over 1.5 million applications available. This operating system is also very popular with users for its customizability, with access to multiple settings to personalize the device.

Note, however, that the interface, menus, and features of Android-based smartphones differ from manufacturer to manufacturer. This operating system is available with many brands of smartphones such as Samsung, Wiko, Huawei, Xiaomi, Sony.

The iOS operating system is only available for Apple devices. To benefit from this powerful and easy-to-use operating system, you need to buy an iPhone. Just like with Android, with the iOS system, you have access to more than 1.3 million applications via the App Store. However, unlike a smartphone equipped with the Android system, the customization of your device is less pronounced with iOS.

4. New or second-hand smartphone?

If your budget is more limited, to buy a cheap smartphone and enjoy your favorite brands, such as Samsung or Apple, at a lower cost, you can also opt for the purchase of a used phone or a refurbished phone.

By choosing a refurbished phone, you can indeed save up to 50% on the price of a new smartphone. For information, a refurbished smartphone is a phone that has been checked, verified, and cleaned by specialized companies. Moreover, it has a minimum warranty of 6 months.

5. Screen size and resolution

new

The size and quality of the screen are important aspects to consider when buying your new device. A large screen will indeed bring you more comfort if you watch videos on your smartphone very often, for example. On the other hand, a smartphone with a smaller screen will be easier to slip into your pocket. So you need to determine what you want in terms of size.

The current screen trend is towards ever-larger screens with almost no borders. Today, many smartphones offer screens of 5.2 inches or 13.2 cm diagonal, 5.5 inches or 13.9 cm diagonal, and even over 6 inches or 15.24 cm diagonal. So, are you more interested in a large screen with a phablet or a classic smartphone with a screen size between 4 and 5 inches?

Apart from the size of the screen, you should also pay special attention to the quality of the screen. A smartphone screen is composed of pixels whose density varies according to the size of the screen and the number of pixels; we talk about the resolution. This has an impact on the display quality.

The various manufacturers offer screen definitions HD with a resolution of 1280×720 pixels, Full HD and FHD + with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels, and QHD and QHD + with a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels.

A Full HD definition with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels is sufficient to obtain good quality readability on your smartphone. However, today’s uses of virtual reality require you to move towards a screen with a QHD definition, that is, Quad HD with a resolution of 2560×1400 pixels.

Top 4 Phone Accessories That Every College Student Needs

College is going to be one of the most amazing places you’ll attend and it will be one of the most formative places and times of your life. As someone who was born in the late 90s, I grew up surrounded by technology and the internet. As an older Gen Z, I grew up without a phone but now more than ever, and I don’t think I can live without my phone.

And as someone who works with social media and writes for a living, I need my phone to survive and to work. Most of us are on our phones for more than 2 to 3 hours a day, which might be for work or entertainment purposes. So, without further ado, let’s get into this blog and talk about some of the essential phone accessories that we believe every college student needs.

1. Wireless earphones

college

As a college student, I consider wireless earphones as an essential, and you will need them to survive your 4 years there. You will need your earphones to drown out the outside world and to stay with your own thoughts and concentrate. So, we advise most, if not all, college students to invest in genuine and good-quality wireless earphones.

Wireless earphones will be your on-the-go companion and will be with you every step of the way in your college. It will help you write your assignment, and you can have fun, and you can tune in to your favorite podcasts and music. You will use your earphones for virtually everything, from walking to campus or even drowning out your roommate being annoying.

2. Portable phone charger

college

If you are like me, you are most likely a busy college student, and you have college on two of one or two side hustles or jobs. This is why it is important for you to have a portable phone charger for you to charge your phone on the go, especially when it is on the verge of dying.

Having your phone dying on you is the worst thing that can happen, and if you are having a bad day, this can be my 13th reason why. We use our phones to do everything in college, and sometimes we forget to charge them. This is why sometimes some of us walk with a 10% battery, and this is where a portable phone charger can come in handy.

Portable phone chargers eliminate this problem of having your phone dying on you, and they will give you that extra battery life that we college students desperately need. My portable charger was one of my best friends in college, and they are always in your pocket or backpack.

3. Tempered glass or screen protector

college

As a recent college graduate, I know the struggle of carrying a lot of things at the same time and having your phone fall. This gives me a mini heart attack every time, and whenever I pick it up, I pray to whatever God is out there for the screen not to be broken.

A tempered glass screen protector is an extra layer of security, and this is why it is one of the items on our list that we strongly recommend to anyone, no matter your age. Tempered glass is extremely strong, and they are usually scratch-resistant and smudge-proof.

If your phone fall, then the screen protector acts as a shield and can break your screen from cracking. If your screen protector looks terrible and is too severely damaged, then you can easier change it. A screen protector is cheaper to change compared to a screen for your actual phone screen.

4. PopSocket

college

We all know the struggle of having our phones fall on our faces as we watch Tiktok or a YouTube video, which hurts like a truck. This is where a PopSocket can come in handy. A PopSocket can be really aesthetically pleasing if they go with the vibes that you are going for, and it allows you to have a better grip on your phone.

They are an awesome accessory to have, and you can use them in a plethora of ways. You can use it as a texting grip, photo grip, media stand, cord wrap, and so much more. They are a great accessory to have, and they are great for self-expression, and they come in a variety of shapes, forms, and designs.

Backup Charger

Whether you’re at work, on holiday, at the beach, in the desert, in Mongolia or deep in the jungle, you should always have something to charge your mobile phone with you. Because if the battery dies, you could find yourself cut off from the world. And unable to take a picture of that magnificent sunset on the summit of Kilimanjaro. A shame, isn’t it?

Fortunately, there are alternatives to traditional electric chargers that you can use at any time and in any situation.

Car chargers

Practical if you’re frequently on the move, the car charger plugs directly into the cigarette lighter and takes advantage of the journey to charge any smartphone.

These chargers, which start at around $5, are efficient and easy to use. If they are not made directly by the brand (Samsung, HTC, BlackBerry, etc.), you must ensure that they are compatible with your smartphone. For example, not all car chargers work with the iPhone.

The operation is even more straightforward and does not require a charger if the car already has a USB socket.

Solar chargers

There are also environmentally friendly ways to charge your mobile phone anywhere, starting with solar-powered chargers. This solution requires no plugs, just sunlight.

The WakaWaka Power charger, for example, has recently appeared on the market, thanks to the participatory financing of internet users via Kickstarter.

Crank chargers

Those looking for an eco-friendly charger that can be used in any weather, with or without sunlight, can turn to crank chargers. Although they require a little effort to recharge the batteries, they guarantee safety in all circumstances. An example is the Eton dynamo charger.

External batteries

There is a multitude of batteries, generally equipped with several USB ports. They have a great deal of autonomy and can replace the original battery when connected to a smartphone.

On the other hand, you have to carry them around and accept the constraint of a box connected to your mobile when you use it. The battery must, of course, be recharged regularly. A brand like Anker offers models for $30. In removable batteries, it is also possible to carry a light, ready-to-use, pre-charged spare.

Sometimes you forget to charge your mobile phone, and when you go out, the charge is not high enough for you to leave without worrying. Before buying a spare battery, think first about optimizing charging time by adopting the right behaviour.

Please do not use your smartphone while it is charging. These little machines work logically – the more you use it, the more energy it needs. The charging time will be longer if you don’t stop while it is plugged in. Some applications are more power-hungry than others (Facebook, games) and downloading large files is not the way to go. A little patience will reward you.

Turn off the connections! While you’re not using it, your smartphone is still alive and kicking. To avoid this leakage as much as possible, consider cutting off all connections. Turn off Bluetooth or Wi-Fi first if you don’t need them. (This also works when the phone is not charging, so you save battery power).

The radical solution: switch to aeroplane mode. If you know you don’t need your smartphone at all during this time, or you’re in a real hurry to get a full battery back, opt for aeroplane mode. With all communications cut off, your battery will recharge much faster.

Use a wall socket rather than the USB port.

Backup Charger

USB ports on computers are much less powerful than the transformers that come with smartphones. Using the wall socket instead of the USB port will save you a lot of time.

Another option: use a tablet transformer

This is also a convenient power option. For example, an iPad charger has 12 watts and an iPhone charger only 5 watts. This power gain will make a big difference.
