Biggest I.T. Myths.

I.T. is a fascinating subject and an integral part of our lives. We use it to communicate with people across the world instantly, crunch immeasurable amounts of data, store the entire history of the world in a single place, and much much more. We all use IT, but how many of us actually understand it? In this article, we will explore some of the biggest myths around IT, and explain the reality of these misconceptions.

Macs Don’t Get Viruses.

Mac Do Get Viruses.

Yes, Macs can and, of course, will get viruses and other forms of malware. And while Mac computers are less vulnerable to malware than PCs, the built-in security features of Mac OS are not enough to protect Mac users against all online threats.

Anything that is linked to a network represents a security risk. If it connects, you must monitor it. And yes, Apple products are no different. Unfortunately, many still think that Apple products can’t get a virus and believe the myths about Apple security— and these include your customers. While Macs may get fewer viruses than PCs, they still get their fair share (and that share is increasing), so if you have a Mac, beware of viruses.

Safely Remove USB” Prevents Data Loss.

Well, Microsoft has approved that in Windows 10, you no longer have to worry about removing USBs ‘safely’. Windows 10 has a “quick removal” feature that lets you remove a USB drive anytime (so long as you are not editing or transferring files to or from it).

The company’s had this feature to keep your flash drives safe since Windows 7. So now, you can safely eject a flash drive at any time, and you can tell your children stories of the struggles of the days when we had to wait for permission from our PC before retrieving our removable media.

Adding Ram Makes Your PC Faster.

It is not that simple. More ram does not equal to faster PC if this is what you think. It depends on whether your existing amount is already acting as a “cap” on performance. The simple answer is if what your process is doing needs exactly 8 GB and you have 16 GB, then adding eight more GB won’t help.

More memory bandwidth doesn’t increase the speed of accessing a single byte of memory (that metric is latency). But more memory bandwidth can increase the rate at which the computer operates.

Incognito Mode Makes You Anonymous.

Incognito Mode Does Not Make You Anonymous.

The incognito mode can make your internet behavior less visible if you use a shared computer. However, it doesn’t make you go anonymous on the internet. Does this mean you can’t surf the internet and go anonymously? No. However, you won’t get far with just the incognito mode.

The incognito mode will not give users the same level of privacy as a VPN. So better use a VPN as compared to incognito, where your activity remains unseen on the browser. Of course, the incognito will allow you to hide your browser history, but it only does so on your browser as the ISP or government can easily track your browsing activity. The best and safest way to conceal your browsing activity on all levels is to use a virtual private network.

Plugging Your Phone in Every Night Will Kill the Battery.

Yes, it is safe to connect the smartphone to the charger overnight. You don’t have to think about saving your smartphone battery, especially at night. For many years, it was thought that connecting a smartphone to charge it while you slept would damage the phone’s battery.

Even though technology constantly evolves, most people still hold on to fake myths about their devices. Let us know in the comments which of these myths you believed were true…
